Long term sustainable change is gained from this powerful tool, available to all but understood by few.

For example, do you know why most of us “fail” in our pursuit of losing weight and diet change, it’s really simple!

Our mindset is simply not attuned to the person who is envisaged. People try to change their physical body by doing physical activity running purely on WILLPOWER to motivate them. This one singularity fails every time, over time.

Willpower, “WILL’ simply only go so far, motivation runs out due to willpower losing is initial “charge” of positive emotions, bad habits creep back in, discipline is replaced with a more relaxed overview and before you know it, it all just doesn’t seem worth it.

Who recognises this?

What is lacking is the mindset and integrated energies and emotions which encompass the person who is “already” slim and eating well. They are operating from their old self whilst trying to create the new self.

Embody the person you wish to be, with the emotions attuned to that future person. This embodiment completely changes the mindset. It gives you the winning mindset.

Let’s look at some examples of a list which people may write for a New Years resolution.

  • DRINK LESS
  • LOSE WEIGHT
  • START EXERCISING
  • WAKE UP EARLY AND GO FOR A RUN
  • EAT HEALTHILY
  • SAVE MONEY

looking at each of these, how would you go about incorporating these changes? How would you make them happen?

Each requires some practical effort definitely. But, willpower as the motivation for ACTION will lead to burnout, mentally and physically. Stress management also plays a key role in significant change, as stress can revert us back to type very quickly when unmanaged.

ITS ALL ABOUT MINDSET!

let’s look at “DRINK LESS” for example. Easy right? You drink a glass or two of your favourite beverage each night, now – you’re only going to have a drink 1 or 2 day’s a week.

All you have done is make a decision, this decision inspires and motivates you to take action, and willpower to succeed is your only driving force.

Think about it, what change have you actually made, which truly changes your mindset apart from making a decision?

So you are left with willpower, in most circumstances. Willpower only takes you so far because it is a poor substitute for when things get tough (stress) in your pursuit of the good you wish to achieve, it is a poor substitute for MINDSET!

It is a poor substitute for the attributes you need for long term sustainable change and growth as a person.

Attributes such as;

  • stress management
  • emotional self regulation
  • emotional anchoring
  • self awareness
  • positive outlook
  • positive enhanced emotional visualisation’s

Will power will bring you back to your old habits and ways of being!
